City Manager   The City Manager is appointed by the City Council, and is the administrative head of the City of Camarillo. As such, the City Manager is responsible for the administration of all affairs of the City, including ensuring that all laws and ordinances are enforced, and that all franchises, permits and privileges granted by the City are observed. It is also the duty of the City Manager to give direction to all department heads, subordinate officers, and employees of the City.
Jerry Bankston is Camarillo's City Manager. Jerry returned to Camarillo in November 1999, after previously working for the City from 1976-1986 as Management Assistant, and as the Assistant to the City Manager. Jerry was hired as the City Manager of Paso Robles in 1986, and later served in the same capacity for the cities of Seal Beach (1991-1995) and La Habra (1995-1999), both of which are in Orange County.

In addition to the City Manager and Assistant City Manager, the City Manager's Department also includes Human Resources, Emergency Services, Waste Management, contracts for Animal Control and Cable Television, Economic Development, the City's public information programs, including CityScene, the bi-monthly magazine/newsletter, CityScene TV and all other programming on the cable government channel (10).

As indicated, the City Manager's Office oversees the City's Economic Development activities. An Economic Development Committee, which consists of two City Councilmembers, City staff and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, was established in 1993 to focus on business retention and attracting new businesses to Camarillo. The Committee also focuses on redevelopment improvements in Old Town, and other parts of the City. With a budget specifically targeted at the marketing needs identified by the Committee, Camarillo Economic Development seeks out prospective businesses, and assists new and current business operators through the development process.

Please contact Camarillo Economic Development (800) 643-5373, or e-mail Camarillo Economic Development.
