STORMWATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The City of Camarillo has a storm drain system that was designed to prevent flooding. Unlike the sanitary sewer system which collects and treats water from your toilets and sinks, water that enters the storm drain system drains to Calleguas Creek or Revolon Slough and eventually the Pacific Ocean without treatment. Any pollutants such as trash, pet waste, vehicle fluids or pesticides that are placed into our storm drain system will eventually end up in our creeks and the ocean. These pollutants threaten our health and the purity of our water resources.
Ventura Countywide Stormwater NPDES Permit – To help insure that our storm drain system is not polluting our creeks, the city is required under the Federal Clean Water Act to comply with a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for our storm drain system issued by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board – Los Angeles Region. The Ventura Countywide Stormwater Quality Management Program, of which Camarillo is a member, was established to comply with the NPDES permit. Help Prevent Stormwater Pollution – You can help be the solution to end stormwater pollution by following these tips:
Dispose of pet waste in a trash container
Never litter or deposit trash on streets or the storm drain
Clean up oil spills and fix leaking automobiles
Keep yard waste and leaves out of the street and gutter
Sweep driveways and sidewalks – do not hose them down
Use pesticides per the manufacturer’s labels and keep them away from ditches, gutters, and storm drains
Minimize unwanted runoff by using drip irrigation, soaker hoses, or micro-spray irrigation systems for your lawn and landscaping
Do not discharge chlorinated pool, spa or fountain water to the street or storm drain system
Never wash pool filter backwash to the street or storm drain system
